How to listen to the music of your smartphone by car

The amp effect of the empty pocket, the solution end of string

You do not have a car radio in your car and you do not want to invest a dime. There is a rudimentary method: the natural sounding box. To do this, start playing your music on the phone speaker and place it in the pocket of the central console, usually provided for a car radio. This cavity will play the role of sound box and accentuate the bass of small speakers. Nothing transcendent, just a lot of consolation when you have nothing else in your car.

The FM transmitter, the galley plan

If you have a rudimentary car radio and you are ready for a minimal investment ( less than 20 euros ), the FM transmitter solution might appeal to you. This small device is powered by the cigarette lighter plug. Some models have a jack, micro-USB or iPhone to receive the sound of your smartphone. The transmitter then sends this signal to the car radio via FM waves. Problem, the quality of the connection is not good and interference is not uncommon. In the same vein, you also have the cassette Jack , an accessory that allows you to connect a car radio cassette. Again, the sound is far from great.

The Bluetooth hands-free kit, always better than the phone

Some Bluetooth handsfree kits have a good size speaker. Thanks to their audio streaming function via Bluetooth, they can receive the music stream of your phone and retransmit it. It’s better than broadcasting on a smartphone but it is only a backup solution that may be suitable for children to listen to their music in the back seat. Also note that some portable GPS can provide this function.

The CarAudio Connect FM Bluetooth connects your smartphone to your car stereo with ease. Simply pair your phone via Bluetooth and connect to your car stereo via FM transmission. A diode makes it easy to use the CarAudio Connect, day or night. In addition, the power adapter comes with a USB port to charge your phone in the car.

This hands-free kit offers clear, natural call quality and superior music performance with 3-speaker Virtual Surround sound. it is also possible to use its FM transmitter function to transmit music and calls directly to the vehicle radio.

Built-in Jack, good sound but improved ergonomics

If your car radio or your vehicle has a Jack input on the front or in the central armrest, the sound of the phone can be sent directly to the car speakers via a 3.5 mm jack adapter (around 5 euros) . Also be aware that it is often complex to add this type of input by tinkering with an original car radio (installed by the manufacturer). The solution is good in terms of sound reproduction but the ergonomics are not optimal because you always have to select songs on the phone.

Bluetooth streaming, the comfort option

It’s the best way to listen to your music in the car. For this, the car stereo or the one installed in the retrofit must be able to receive the Bluetooth music stream of your smartphone.
Song titles are usually displayed on the on-screen screen (sometimes the album art) and it’s usually possible to select a song with the steering wheel controls. Small refinement, when the car offers the voice command, the songs can be called to the voice.
